Junior Achievement at Schuster Elementary School
October 31, 2018- As part of our Service Learning for the School Year, some of our fellow cadets were elected to be apart of the Junior Achievement Program at Schuster Elementary. In order for cadets to be selected, they have to be passing their classes, show great leadership and initiative to help others.
Cadets were paired with a partner for each class, which represented teamwork. A week or two prior to the actual date, pairs were required to learn all of the subjects that they were going to be teaching the kids. These including lessons on Finance, City Planning, and Entrepreneurs. Each pair then was assigned to a different classroom and grade levels.
The event allowed cadets to build person connections with the younger students. Skills such as communication, teaching, patience, and leadership were acquired through the student-guided activities. After all, service learning is about helping the community while teaching the cadets life-long lessons; tasks that were accomplished through Junior Achievement.
